First.  I want to thank you all for your thoughts and prayers regarding Gucci…my kitty cat.  I wanted to make sure to give you an update on Gucci.

She just turned 18 so she’s getting up there.  Earlier in the year (July) I was told she had cancer.  It is an aggressive one.  It’s basically the kitty equivalent to breast cancer.  She had been cruising along quite nicely until the Saturday after Christmas.  We woke up and Gucci’s back legs just kind of stopped working.  I was devastated but managed to feed her, stick her in the litter box, and snuggle her.  There was just a weird look in her eyes.  She didn’t seem like my cat.  I kind of thought she may have just taken a spill off the counter and she didn’t seem in pain.  But.  As the afternoon wore on her pain became evident and she was not in good shape.  Rushed her to the Emergency since her normal vet was closed at this point.  The vet said she couldn’t find anything going on physically and recommended some pain meds until we could get her to her regular vet and get blood tests.

The rest of that Saturday and Sunday were awful.  I was trying to memorize

everything I could about Gucci.  I prayed that God would take good care of her.  I believe the actual prayer was “God, you better take good care of this one or you’ll have me to answer to.” Sure it was a prayer of a 10-year-old little girl but I felt that way.  I was scared and thought something was wrong with my best friend.  I went through everything Gucci and I had been through.  Break-ups.  Moves.  Jobs.  Long road trips.  Deaths.  It was all there out in front of me and now I was having to confront, what I thought was her death, without her.  We had an appointment first thing on Monday morning.  That car drive to the Cat Doctor was the longest, shortest drive of my life.  Even getting ready that morning was tough.  I had all the other animals say goodbye to Gucci as we headed out to hear what the vet had to say.  We waited and the vet took blood, took x-rays, and came back and said “for an 18-year-old cat she’s in great shape.” She also added “The great news is that there’s nothing glaringly wrong.  The bad news is there’s nothing glaringly wrong.”  Okay. Whew? We got her on some shots for her old lady arthritis.  As of right this second.  Gucci is doing so much better.  Still don’t know what caused her to lose her back legs BUT I am happy to report they are working again and she is back to her normal self with an appetite that won’t quit.  It’s really is amazing how animals just become such a big part of your family.  I learned a lot from that latest scare. I don’t take a single second with her for granted….and if she paws my hand down to eat a piece of steak off my plate, well, that’s okay with me.
