After living here for 4 months, this is why I have fallen in love with the Treasure Valley!

I grew up just outside of Salt Lake City and to be honest, I always wanted to get out! I was the type of kid that swore I was leaving Utah the day I graduated high school and I was never moving back. Fast forward to my 34th birthday, and I was still living in Salt Lake.

I do believe that you have to make the most of where you live, and I learned to love Utah. It's very pretty, and a great place to raise a family for the most part, but this is not about Salt Lake; it's about finally making that move and falling in love with Idaho and the Treasure Valley.

To be perfectly honest, I was hesitant when considering the move. I hadn't been to Idaho since I was a kid. My Great-grandparents lived in Grangeville, and we often traveled there for Thanksgiving, but in my mind Idaho was very much like they depict in the film Napoleon Dynamite. I pictured cow pastures, cowboys, and to put it bluntly, a whole lot of redneck. What I found was very different!

It took Rick and I less than 24 hours to realize that Boise and the Treasure Valley is really cool!! In fact we consider it this little hidden gem that you only recognize if you live here.

This is What I Love About Living in the Treasure Valley

  • The passion for Boise State. When it's game day everyone is decked in blue and orange from head to toe! I love how we rally around the football team and it makes me feel like I'm part of this really cool club by living here.
  • People are very nice drivers. Rick and I always tease that you are not allowed to honk your horn in Boise! I am a horrible driver and even when I cut people off or swerve across the highway to get to my exit, no one honks! I've also noticed that people respect the turn signal. If I signal, people actually let you over! (You don't see that in Utah, it's an all out war whether you flash your turn signal or not.)
  • Lots of family friendly activities from The Spirit of Boise Balloon Classic to the Meridian Block Party, there are so many fun activities for the whole family that bring this community together.
  • The Squirrels. I am obsessed with the squirrels around town! My dog loves to chase them and I want to capture them and feed them nuts in my kitchen! They are so stinkin' cute!
  • It’s so beautiful here! I love the tree lined streets, the river, the green belt and the mountains. People seem to keep up with their yards, it's safe, and Meridian, where I live, was voted the Best City to Live in in America! There are endless opportunities for camping, biking, skiing, and fishing.
  • Life is just a little bit slower. People take time to actually talk to one another and, trust me, the traffic is not that bad. Whenever I visit Salt Lake City I realize this.
  • People love living here and they are happy! I haven't met one person who doesn't have great things to say about life here, and with my family moving up this weekend, I can not wait for them to fall in love with the Treasure Valley too!
