Lava Hot Springs, Idaho made huge national headlines over twenty years ago when Ligertwon, a complext next to the small town lost several exotic animals.

The big story was that several Ligers (cross between lions and tigers) and lions had  escaped.  Nearly twenty animals escaped on September 20, 1995 and most have them had been shot and killed by that evening.  The public was scared and they weren't about to wait for something bad to happen.

Later on the cages and conditions where these animals resided were inspected by law enforcement and animal rescue groups.  Conditions were described as "filth and squalor, almost indescribable."

More than forty wolf hybrids and forty ligers and lions were removed and ended up at the Wildlife Waystation in California.

Dottie Martin and Robert Fieber were the two owners of the property and were convicted of thirteen counts, including animal cruelty.
