Is it time to float the Boise River? I've been waiting all year long!!

I have been living here for almost 10 months now, and I still haven't floated down the Boise River!!

I've heard rumors that it may not even be possible to float down the river this summer because of the Broadway Bridge construction, so I did some digging to find out if and when we can float!

According to ADA County Public Information Officer, Kate McGuire the Boise River flows are running double what's considered safe for floaters. The river is running so high that firefighters haven't even been able to remove the debris that needs to be removed along the riverbanks and underneath the water.

Last year the Boise River opened for floaters on June 12th, but that's a record early opening that will not be happening this year. The earliest the river is expected to open for floaters is in TWO WEEKS and it may not open until the 4th of July weekend.

As for the rumors swirling that we won't be able to float the river this year because of the Broadway bridge construction, that rumor is false. ITD's contract with Knife River requires them to provide river access for floaters without having to get out of the water. The river will only be closed between sundown and 10am once the river is open to floaters. For more information on floating the Boise River click HERE.
