So last week Randy from the morning show asked me if I still believed that America is still the land of opportunity. I said "absolutely." So, I proceeded to tell him about how I am currently in the process of becoming a U.S. Citizen. It's been a long time coming, but I've finally got all my ducks in a row and tackling this head on.

My hope in sharing my story is that others understand the process, and to maybe, possibly, shed a light on all the misconceptions and stigma associated with immigration.

I was born in Chihuahua, Mexico but grew up in California since I was young. I graduated high school there, and even went on to graduate from college there too.

And while my whole family went through the process of citizenship years ago, I never did it because it was all so expensive (application + fees can run up to $1K) and with college tuition, books, and other regular expenses, I didn't really have the opportunity to buy good food (I was-like many other college students-on a Ramen diet) let alone throw down a grand for an application.

But now I am finally in a spot in my life where I can make it happen So, after my sister nagged me for months to get the application in, I did it.

I'm excited to bring you along on my journey!
