This is PART 5 of my reflections about when my daughter who has Down syndrome was born.

A recent study published in the “Journal of Research of Personality” (and I know you can’t wait to rush out and subscribe) showed that when people take ownership of their life’s narrative and retell their stories, they later report higher levels of well-being.
How you tell your story and the meaning you give to it makes all the difference.
I’ve stopped saying my daughter’s birth was like a shovel to the face. Now, I think of it like the universe, God, life, whatever – sent a massive lovable dog bounding toward me. It knocked me over and slobbered and kissed me into submission. That’s my new narrative. My story.
