With Isabelle, my daughter who has Down syndrome, recently turning four years old, I've been thinking a lot about the day she was born.  Here are some of my thoughts...

In 2010, my wife was pregnant with our second child.

It was a pretty typical pregnancy, except near the end. The baby was turned funny. Despite our best efforts, she was stubborn and refused to flip over.  (The baby, not my wife.  My wife was more than willing to flip over if that's what it took...)

By the way, there’s a lot of info out there on how to get a baby to flip over.

Taking a door off the hinges and tilting it at an angle on a cinder block and having your wife lie on it doesn’t work.  Just saying.

So anyway, the doctors decided to schedule a C-section to be on the safe side.

That September morning, we had every intention of leaving the hospital after a day or so with a healthy new baby girl.

Things didn’t turn out exactly like we planned.
