Warning: NSFW Bugs Ahead

You've heard of the birds and the bees. But apparently bees aren't the only bugs that are gettin' it on in the garden.

My oldest daughter planted a cabbage in the garden the other day as part of a school project. She loves this cabbage, waters it, and watches it for pests everyday. When she noticed that something was chomping on it, we investigated.

It turns out that aphids were noshing on her cabbage. Since my wife is a hippie, we couldn't just spray the cabbage with bug killer -- that wouldn't be organic enough. So I investigated and found out that the natural enemy of the aphid is the ladybug. I bought a bag of ladybugs (who knew you could...) and dumped them on the cabbage.

A day later, all of the aphids were gone, but most of the ladybugs were dead as well. It turns out that after stuffing themselves with aphids, the ladybugs then mated and died. (They didn't cover that part of the life cycle in "The Lion King...") They ate, partied, and mated. My garden was like ladybug Vegas.
