Every city has one or two landmarks that nobody knows about, except those who live there.  This is one in Boise.  Close to downtown off Park Blvd right across the street from Wow 104.3.

This is The Ice Fountain.  Right next to the parking lot of a business complex, this fountain runs 365 days a year.  It's cool looking now but really cool when temperatures drop below 10 degrees.

Here's another one I came across over the weekend with my family when we were walking to the Boise Fry Company for lunch.  It's Freak Alley!  Some very cool artwork in a run down parking lot just down the street from the Capitol building.

Here's a list of some of my favorite (not so well known) landmarks in Idaho.

  • Deja Moo - A two headed cow displayed at the Idaho State Historical Museum.
  • Basque Tree Carvings - Culturally modified trees in the Boise National Forest.
  • Rudy The Rooster - Jim's Coffee Shop on Fort Street has had this guy up for 50 years.  He's now moving to his new home at Delsa's Ice Cream Parlor on Ustick Rd.
  • Grave of Satan - Satan was a 6 foot 4 inch 4,600 pound steer that died 17 years ago.  His resting place is in the front yard of Jack and Penny Meracle's farm in Kuna.
  • Brundage Bra Tree - People on the ski lifts of Brundage Mountain Ski Resort in McCall toss their bras onto the tree.
  • Thousand Penny Mural - 430,000 pounds of pennies are glued together on a wall just outside of Kurly's Sports Bar and Grill in Mountain Home.
