Is there an age limit to being cool?

My kids would say "definitely yes"!  I'm not so sure.  What is cool?  Websters dictionary says... "very good:  excellent:  all right:  fashionable:  hip".

Hmmm... what does that mean exactly? If you ask my teenage daughters they'll tell you a number of different attributes are necessary to be cool.  Looks, knowledge, attire, articulate, popularity, etc.  But I noticed that all these attributes have different meanings to different people.

I'm 43 years old and good looks to me is very different than what my girls think is good looking.  I wouldn't be caught dead wearing their attire nor them, mine.  When I hear some seventeen year old express his/her knowledge of a topic or subject compared to the discussions around the office... I notice they're very different.  Articulate to them is who sounds the best.  I'd prefer someone who could put together a sentence or two.  Popularity in my world has changed significantly too.  When I see little Lolo with Down Syndrome at the Buddy Walk over the weekend draw hundreds of people because of her cute little personality... I see someone who's very cool.  I'm not so sure my girls see it that way.

I've come to this conclusion.  Anyone and everyone who is courageous enough to be themselves is cool enough for me.  With age comes confidence, individuality, and a beauty that's indescribable.  I don't believe anyone's too old to be cool.  I believe being cool often times comes with age.  It's a right of passage that we can only hope to achieve.

These are my parents and possibly the coolest people I know!  I only hope that I can be that cool someday!!
