This Ball Is Mine Now!
I got home yesterday and did the most “dad-thing” I've ever done.
My wife and our girls had a playdate with a kid from my Second Grade daughter's class. They hung out in the backyard, played with our dog Gracie, and generally made a mess of things. Though I am happy they went outside and got some fresh air and exercise, I was annoyed at the devastation they left behind.
I picked up not one, not two, not three, but TWELVE toys strewn about the yard. Not only that, when I pulled into the driveway I ran over my yard rake they had gotten out and left there. I couldn't understand why my wife didn't make them clean everything up. She said she didn't notice all of the destruction the kids left in their wake. (She missed a bright red rake and twelve balls in the yard?!) As for the dad-thing I did, I explained that going forward when I find a toy left outside, it becomes mine.
