Every year this list comes out, the answers are more and more surprising. This year, they're totally off the wall.

Nameberry.com compiled the most popular baby names for both boys and girls in 2017. Maybe it's just this writer, but I feel like there's no way a couple of these entries were the most popular names. Let's start with the girls:

  1. Olivia
  2. Cora
  3. Amelia
  4. Charlotte
  5. Isla

So many ending-with-A names on here. What's the deal? Are parents choosing their daughter's name strictly based on how it would sound in a book title? Now for the boys:

  1. Atticus
  2. Asher
  3. Jack
  4. Theodore
  5. Jasper

A couple thoughts here. Jack and Theodore are good American names, so no problems there. Jasper? I refuse to even believer there's a single human with that legal name. Atticus is fine I guess, but that kid is now going to have to explain every time someone asks that "Um...it's from a book from the 30's...I think?" Gonna be a tough time in school for you, Atticus. Sorry about that.
