For the first time ever, middle school kids from Ontario will not get to play sports.

Students at Four Rivers Charter School have played sports alongside students at Ontario Middle School for the past eight years.  That all comes to an end now.  When Four Rivers made the announcement that they'd be adding a high school to it's K-8 dual-immersion program, the Ontario School District said "we're out."

It all boils down to what most issues do.  Money!  The Ontario School District says the $100,000 the state provides them to help with Four Rivers' special education and administrative services is nowhere close to enough to fund high school activities.

So the kids have been showing up to try out for cheer, baseball, soccer, and a number of other activities and being turned away.  Not because of their abilities or who they are.  Most are being told that if they left Four Rivers and started going to school at Ontario Middle, they'd make the team.

Sports are way too important in teaching our young children lessons in life they'll keep with them forever.  I wonder what lesson we're teaching them now.
