Snow Taking its Toll on Mail Delivery

Has your mail been late getting delivered lately? Blame it on Mother Nature!  If you've been having a tough time driving around in the built up snow, well the USPS trucks are right there with ya.

After all it's not like their trucks have 4-wheel-drive and postal workers in Nampa lately have even had to put chains on their trucks to deliver the mail.  Bret Helle, a 16-year USPS mail carrier veteran says, "last Wednesday when that storm hit, when that big storm hit, I got stuck for two-and-a-half hours, a tow truck brought out chains, got me pulled out, and this is in a flat subdivision. And I threw that right chain seven more times that day."

Helle even points out that with the weather being the way its been lately, he's only been able to complete half of his route on any given day.  "I try to get half the route done, the next day I do the other half of the route, most of my customers are understanding."

For Helle, it's personal though. In his entire career he's never had to delay his deliveries as much as he's having to now.  "It broke my heart to bring the mail back last week, really, because I felt like I was failing in a sense, but everyone was doing it, it was accepted, but you try to do your best," says Helle.
