Ever since I got my traeger grill, I've been smoking just about anything I can get my hands on.  But what I made last night was so good it was shocking!

I was a bit of a Traeger skeptic, but when Alana got one I and wouldn't stop raving, I decided to jump on the pellet smoker bandwagon.  Dang son, I am glad I did!  You have not lived until you've made a whole chicken or bacon on the Traeger. But last night I tried something new, and I'm glad I did!  I made Smoked Turkey Meatloaf!  I didn't have a recipe, I was just winging it.  Here's what I did. If you have a pellet smoker, try it and let me know what you think.  My family went nuts for it.  My tallest daughters exclaimed, "Dad, this is a keeper!"

Ingredients:

2 pounds ground turkey

1 can of mixed vegetables

A healthy squirt of ketchup

A big glob of extra virgin olive oil

Barbecue seasoning (I use John Henry's Smokehouse.  You can get it here.)

2 eggs

3/4 cup of oatmeal

Directions:

Mix all of that stuff up and form it into a loaf-ish looking thing.  Then put it on your traeger on the smoke setting (mine's digital, I don't know what the dial setting is... probably pretty low).  I used a perforated pizza pan to make sure the smoke could penetrate the meatloaf but kept it from falling through the grate.  Smoke that sucker for a good 3 1/2 - 4 hours until it's at a safe temp to eat.  I've always heard around 175 when you're smoking poultry is good. The last hour or so top it with this glaze:

Whisk up a huge squirt of ketchup, a smaller squirt of mustard & barbecue sauce, and a healthy handful of brown sugar.  Top the turkey meatloaf with it the last hour on the pellet smoker and let it finish cooking. Dang!  That is one fine dinner.
