Should we raise the legal age to smoke from 18 to 21 here in Idaho?

Smoking related health issues cost over $500 million per year in Idaho alone, so St. Alphonsus and Trinity Health are behind an initiative to raise the legal age to smoke in the Treasure Valley from 18 to 21.

More than 135 cities and counties have already jumped on board, along with the entire state of California, and Hawaii; but the public's opinions are mixed.

Some say 18 is mature enough to make these personal decisions. I've often heard the argument that if you are old enough to join the military you should be old enough to smoke or drink.

On the flip side, experts say that between the ages of 18 and 21 is when most experimental smoking turns from recreational to addiction.

According to the report from KTVB, smoking is the leading cause of preventable death and premature death in the United states.

So what do you think should we raise the legal age to smoke?
