Boise residents are rallying around a tree at Lowell Elementary that sprouted from seeds that were on Apollo 14. The tree is dying from a lack of water and an insect infestation.

According to the Idaho Statesman the Loblolly Pine seeds orbited the moon 34 times!

Luckily people from the school and the community are willing to help out. Arborists at Idaho Tree Preservation are donating their knowledge and equipment to address the insect problem and The North End Neighborhood Association has given a grant to help pay for the 275 gallons of water the tree needs each week.

Students and teachers at Lowell Elementary are also looking for ways to get involved and the 4th-graders plan to make a plaque for the tree.
