Quick Poll: Tipping Hotel Staff?

This is pretty interesting and I would love to know your thoughts!  A new program initiated by Marriott encourages guests to tip the housekeeping staff.  Are you as a guest expected to tip?  I usually try to leave a $20 after a couple day stay at a hotel but is it necessary and how would you feel if it were required?
