So let's be real.  When you receive a gift, are you looking for something expensive, or something from the heart?  What's better?

This is a card one of my old soccer players sent me in the mail to let me know she misses me.  She's a 9 year old girl named Emme that put her heart and soul into this card.  I absolutely love it.  I also received a $100 movie gift card to AMC theaters from a different player named Ashley on my old soccer team.  She's also 9.  Which gift is better?  I mean really!

We all throw out the ole "from the heart is so much better than something bought", but when does that change?  Where's the line?  If my wife was going to choose between a heart felt letter or a brand new sports car I've been eye balling... I'm going with the car.  I'm sorry.  Just being honest.  Write me a letter some other time.  I need me some wheels!

Now to keep from hurting Emme or Ashley's feelings, I'm going to refrain from telling you which gift I liked more.  They're "Even Stephen" as far as I'm concerned.  That's the politically correct thing to say, right?  I love both of these girls and I'm so blessed to know them.  With that said... most people, deep down, want the expensive gifts.  Sorry kiddos!  That does not mean we don't absolutely love and adore those homemade cards, pictures, and hand prints.  We do!  We'll keep those things forever.  And in a lot of cases, we'd choose that over something bought from the store.  But raise the price enough and any adult will go for the $$$$$.  What's the saying?  Everyone has a price, right?

I'm going to work on wanting the card more than the car.  Promise, I am.  But until then... I like black, leather seats, and a convertible would be nice.  :)
