A nasty crash along I-55 in Eagle has left one man dead this afternoon.

It has not been confirmed, but distracted driving may have played a role in an accident that sent a van with a Pepsi logo slamming into the back of a truck.

According to KTVB the crash happened at the intersection of Hill Road and according to Eagle Police Chief Patrick Calley initial investigation seems to show that one vehicle stopped at the red light while the other did not.

The driver in the truck only suffered minor injuries, but the crash proved fatal for the man driving the van. His identity has not yet been released.

Road are back open now, but the crash left I-55 blocked until about 4 p.m. in both directions between HWY 44 and Floating Feather Road. Hill Road was also blocked between Horseshoe Bend Road and Echo Hawk.

Whether the pending investigation finds that distracted driving was indeed a factor or not, lets all vow to keep it safer on the roads this summer. We've already seen far too many fatal accidents in the Treasure Valley this year and we're quickly approaching the 100 deadliest days on the road between Memorial Day and Labor Day.

Buckle up, put the cell phone down, and keep your eyes on the road.
