Representative Mat Erpelding of Boise wants to raise the minimum wage. As you can imagine, it's a bit controversial.

He told a local TV news station that raising the minimum wage to $9.25 over the next two years will make Idaho a better place to live and get ahead. But there are people who think that raising the minimum wage will drive up prices on goods & services. On the extreme end of the spectrum, there's even a chance that it could make some small businesses close their doors and fire people.

I guess my take is that as a society, we're going to end up paying for this situation one way or another. We either support a higher minimum wage by paying more for stuff... OR... we pay to support people who can't make ends meet through higher taxes by providing assistance. Other communities near Boise have raised their minimum wage and the sky didn't fall. Why not give it a try?
