We don't normally associate crime with our beautiful state, but this city has been deemed the "Most Dangerous City in the Gem State."

Idaho Falls has surprisingly topped msn.com's list of the most dangerous city in every state.

In Idaho Falls there have been 424 violent crimes per 100,000 people. Compare that to the national average of 386 violent crimes for every 100,000 people and it doesn't make Idaho Falls look too good.

Even worse, when you look at Idaho's violent crime rate as a whole there are only 230 violent crimes per 100,000 people.

I don't understand. I've always thought of Idaho Falls as a very safe area known for its proximity to BYU Idaho in Rexburg and a strong Mormon population.

As you dig deeper into the stats, most of the violent crimes reported in Idaho were reported as aggravated assault. There was only one homicide back in 2016.

If anyone understands why so many violent crimes are happening in Idaho Falls let me know. I want to get to the bottom of this.
