One of the deadliest caves in America is a lot closer to home than you think.  It's a one mile underground passageway that'll take your life if you're not prepared.

The Darby Ice Cave is up the South Fork of Darby Canyon just twenty minutes outside of Driggs, Idaho.  The opening isn't very impressive and it's difficult to get to.  You have to scramble a 100 foot tall skree pile to reach the base of the cave.  Then you must free climb over 6 foot tall rock ledges to enter.

From that point you'll see two different cave openings and a small bit of ice.  The lower passage requires technical caving equipment.  You'll start seeing massive amounts of water that may or may not be frozen.

With the right equipment and experience guiding you The Darby Ice Cave is one of the most beautiful places on earth.  Pools, rock shapes and colors, icicle formations, and an opportunity to see some of God's creation that most do not.
