Governor Otter has signed the bill aimed at eliminating concealed carry permits within city limits.

This now allows any resident of Idaho that is 21 or older to conceal-carry without a permit while in city limits.  You obviously cannot go into sensitive places like schools, court houses, juvenile detention centers, or federal buildings with a gun.  If you're traveling outside of Idaho you must have a permit.

Otter signed the bill on Friday.  He acknowledges that he's a gun owner and encourages gun safety.  "I'm a gun owner, a hunter and a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association, I have consistently championed our citizens' gun rights throughout my years in public office, and I do so again today in signing Senate Bill 1389 into law.  While S 1389 is consistent with the U.S. Constitution, Idaho values and our commitment to upholding our constitutional protections from governor overreach, I am concerned about its lack of any provision for education and training of the individuals who choose to exercise the right to concealed carry.... In the absence of such a provision, I encourage anyone considering concealed carry to take advantage of gun safety training opportunities available from many reputable sources throughout Idaho," he said.

The law goes into effect on July 1.
