Sometimes you just want to be a good neighbor, you know? Maybe it's because you're a nice person or maybe you don't know your neighbors but want to do something nice to break the ice.

There are different ways you can go about this but if you're carelessly generous, you could wind up in some legal trouble in Idaho.

Like a good neighbor...

Allow us to set the table: it's a weekend afternoon and you're out mowing the lawn. Maybe you have a delicious brew nearby and the Idaho weather coupled with the Lord's cola has you feeling extra generous.

So, you say to yourself: "I already have my mower out, why stop here? My neighbor's yard is ticklin' mine, why not?"

You mow and give that yard a quick cut, feeling good about yourself as you head into the house.

The next thing you know, you're in a jumpsuit at a corrections facility sharing bunk beds with an inmate people call "Jagged Jimmy" who has your companionship on sale for a carton of smokes and a bag of Cheetos.

Okay, we're kidding, it's not that bad but it is illegal to commit such a generous deed. By hopping into your neighbor's yard to cut their green, you're trespassing according to Idaho law.

Now, there is good and bad news about the punishment for mowing your neighbor's yard.

The good news

The good news is that you're likely only to face a fine of $300, so no jumpsuits with "Jagged Jimmy" or Cheetos. Besides, you cut your neighbor's yard! They should be thanking you and hopefully, the judge will have mercy on your circumstance.

And the bad news...

The bad news is if you're terrible at cutting grass... like if you absolutely suck at it, your neighbor could say that you caused "damage" to their property. You could face up to six months of jail time if it's your first time catching this violation according to Idaho legislation.

While it's not as spontaneous and will likely make the situation more awkward; ask your neighbor first.

Awkward? Potentially. More awkward than "Jagged Jimmy" selling you to a guy named "Brickhouse" for a pair of socks and a can of beans? Probably not.
