Hot for Teacher in Idaho

Tomas Fisher was sentenced to 11 years in prison today for having sexual relations with one of his 16 year old students. Unfortunately, this problem is becoming way too common. 

I remember way back in the 90's when Mary Kay Letourneau made national headlines for having relations with her then 12 year old student. I know this case is extreme, but the whole student/teacher relationship thing has gotten way out of control across the country and Idaho is no exception. Interestingly enough, Mary Kay Letourneau ended up marrying her student after her turned 18, she spent years in prison, and gave birth to two of her students children! Moving on to the Idaho offenders, 28 year old Tomas Fisher taught Spanish at Skyview High School when he started a relationship with a 16 year old girl. Detectives are saying the couple met up for sex at his home, a Target parking lot, and a movie theater. The relationship came to light after Tomas stepped down from his teaching position at Skyview High. Tomas will now spend at least 3 years behind bars before being eligible for parole. Back in January of this year the principal of Hacker Middle School in Mountain Home, John Clark was charged with sexual abuse of a minor. He had been a teacher in the school district for many years. Mr. Clark is awaiting trial.

The hot for teacher problem doesn't stop there. Just back in July of 2015 a 24 year old church teacher at Centennial Baptist Church in Caldwell was sentenced to 11 1/2 years in prison for having sexual relations with a 16-17 year old student of his. Casey R. Dyck also told several of his students he would give them "extra credit" if they sent him pictures of them wearing low cut tops and short shorts. He'll spend at least 1 1/2 years in jail and must register as a sex offender.

Back in 2009 a 40 year old psychology teacher named Michelle Farley who taught at Borah High School here in Boise was sentenced 6 months in jail for having a relationship with a 17 year old student.

I don't know what we can do as a society about this problem, but having my own kids it makes me really nervous. Hopefully teachers will start learning that it's simply not ok to date a student!!! Luckily, cops are cracking down, so if you go down that road you're most likely going to pay a heavy price.
