Today is International Bow Tie Day.  At least that's what the hashtags on twitter indicate.  Me, I'm not so ready to embrace the trend.

I'm not sure when bow ties became a thing. I mean, I grew up thinking only nerds and old people wore them.  Somewhere along the way, bow ties were claimed by hipsters as their own.  Was it Dr. Who who brought bow ties back?  I don't know, but I'm not sure I'm going to start wearing one.

Now, to be fair, I don't normally wear a tie, bow or otherwise.  Heck, I work in radio; the people around me are lucky if I put on pants in the morning.

I didn't even wear a bow tie to a fundraiser the last time I wore a tuxedo, opting instead for a long, traditional style tie with my monkey suit. Maybe it's because I still think of bow ties as nerdy and old.  But it's more likely that I appreciate the extra clothing covering up my belly that a long tie affords.

Know anybody who routinely rocks the bow tie?  Nerd?  Old?  Hipster?  All of the above?
