Harmful algae is to blame for the closure.

According to KTVB, city officials closed Pond No. 2 at Esther Simplot Park on September 6, after "water samples tested positive for a species of algae that can be harmful to humans and animals."

The pond-which is to the west of the main pond-doesn't have a beach area and doesn't see much recreational use.

After treating the algae blooms with chemicals, the levels are "well below health advisory levels".

KTVB says that Boise Parks and Recreation Department is urging park visitors to obey posted signs. Dogs are still not allowed at Esther Simplot Park or the adjacent Quinn's Pond area.
