Whoever thought that a caterpillar could land you in the hospital?! Even crazier, who would have ever thought we would have a caterpillar outbreak that could completely ruin your camping over Labor Day weekend?! Well, it's happening right here in Idaho and here's what you need to know to avoid the attack of the caterpillars!

If you have plans to camp near the Sage Hen recreational area do everything you can to avoid the Douglas-fir tussock moth caterpillars. Even if you just come in contact with the hair on these caterpillars you can break out in a severe rash.

The outbreak is so bad that according to KTVB a man named Greg Betts says he went camping at Sage Hen on August 17th and 13 out of the 16 people he was with broke out with the rash. Four of the people in his party had to be rushed to urgent care.

The last caterpillar outbreak happened between 2005 and 2008 and historically this does happen about every decade.

Your best bet is to either avoid the camping area or at least be aware and stay away from the caterpillars.
