A thief chops off the tail and mane of a horse in Northern Idaho.

This isn't the first time this has happened.  Back in February a woman reported that a thief cut off the hair on two of her horses' tails.  A family just south of Post Falls says the same thing just happened to their thirteen year old mare, Ruby.

This went down off of Greensferry Rd just south of the Spokane River.  About three feet was cut off of Ruby's tail and some of her mane as well.

The Kootenai County Sheriff's Office says horse hair is pretty valuable.  It's used in making art, equipment for instruments, and bridles.  The Sheriff's office says they get two to three calls a year about people having their horses' tails cut.  It'll take Rudy about two years to grow her tail back to normal.

Please contact the Kootenai County Sheriff's Office if you have any information or details.
