I have had dreams of big beachy waves for years. I've tried everything under the sun, but here's what has finally worked for me.

I have very fine, thin hair. It's something I've cursed my father over for years. I had actually resigned to having straight hair. (In fact I had the attitude of "I don't want to have that trendy curly hair anyway!") Secretly though, on lazy Sunday evenings I find myself in the bathroom trying to score those perfect beachy waves! I came across this tutorial recently and I think it has some really good tips!

I didn't have sea salt spray and I didn't have the ingredients on hand to make my own, so I just used some root lifter spray and put a bunch of hairspray in my hair. It worked great! Here's a few other tips I've learned along my curly hair journey.

  • Back comb your hair before you curl. You want it as big and bad as you can get; you can always tame it down after.
  • Don't sleep on your curls. (I've been told time and time again to do this, but I don't think it works well with fine/thin hair! I wake up with a big poof ball and unraveled curls every time.)
  • Gently separate your curls. Don't separate them too much though because the curls have a hard time holding when you have fine/thin hair. Even if your curls are a little tight in the morning, they'll probably be looser than you want by noon.

Good luck on perfecting those curls ladies!
