Brantley Gilbert hasn't shared release details for his next album just yet -- his most recent project, The Devil Don't Sleep, dropped in 2017 -- but when he does release new music, the record will feature a song for his son. The country star shared some details about the track in a recent interview with People.

"The Man That Hung the Moon," People reports, is a song that Gilbert wrote for his son, Barrett Hardy-Clay, that takes a closer look at the relationship between father and son over the course of time, from the early years when a dad can do no wrong to the point in time when a son realizes that his father isn't perfect. Gilbert says he understands that glass-shattering moment will come soon enough.

“At some point, he’ll actually look things up on the internet and find out that, ‘Hey, my dad’s not quite a superhero. He was quite the opposite there for a minute.’ Man, I’m dreading that,” Gilbert admits. However, he welcomes the challenge head-on in the song, making sure his son knows about when his father turned a corner from his "bumpy" past.

“I hope he goes, ‘Oh, well, my dad started making some different decisions even before I came into the picture,'” Gilbert says.

Gilbert has been open about his struggle with alcohol and opiate addiction in the past, his road to recovery and his sobriety. He's been sober since 2011, a feat which he credits to his faith and his wife Amber, with whom he welcomed Barrett, their first son, in November of 2017.

Gilbert is currently on the road for his 2018 The Ones That Like Me Tour. He's also gearing up for a summer full of festivals and events, including an appearance at Country Jam in Colorado in June.
