The top award at the NEA Foundation's Salute to Excellence in Education Gala went to one of our teachers right her in Boise, Idaho.

Award winning public school educators from across the country were honored Friday night in Washington D.C. with over 900 guests and thousands more watching the live stream.

The top award along with a $25,000 check went to Sonia Galaviz, a 5th grade teacher at Garfield Elementary School in Boise.

It was the very last award out of forty that were presented at the gala.  Here's a quote from the NEA Foundation about Sonia...

"Sonia has been selected for this award by her peers for attaining the highest teaching standards, as illustrated by her exemplary instruction, advocacy for the profession, and staunch support of public education," said Harriet Sanford, President and CEO of the NEA Foundation. "She provides students with important first-hand, experiential learning. She also creates a safe and engaging environment where students can explore learning opportunities in and outside the classroom."

We're proud of Sonia for her 15 years of dedication to the kids and we're proud of Garfield Elementary School for giving these exceptional leaders a place to shine!
