The largest concentration of Basque Americans is in the Boise area.

About 15,000 Basque Americans live here in the Boise area.  This is the home of the Basque Museum and Cultural Center and we are the host of a large Basque festival called the Jaialdi every five years.  Most of the Basque community here in Boise can trace their ancestry back to Biizkai in Northern Spain.

A lot of Basque have left their homeland for other parts of the globe for political and economical reasons.  Most of them have landed in Argentina, Columbia, Chile, Uruguay, and Cuba.  There are hundreds of thousands of Basque that have left their homeland.

The Basque diaspora is commonly referred to as "the eighth province" which refers to the historical seven Basque provinces.
