A horrible crash along Hwy 20 has claimed the life of a young man from Notus.

It happened last night around 10 pm near Notus.

The young man was headed west on HWY 20 when he crossed the center line in his 2015 Kia Optima and hit a semi truck head on.

The young man's name has not been released yet, but according to KTVB, he was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the car and died at the scene.

The driver of the semi, 47 year old David Gates of Grangeville, Idaho was very traumatized by the event, but miraculously he walked away with minor injuries despite the fact that both his semi and the Kia Optima caught fire after the crash.

HWY 20 was shut down for 6 hours after the accident. We don't know why this young man crossed the center line, but please let it serve as yet another reminder to wear your seat belt.
