10 Idaho Places Only Idahoans Know How To Pronounce
Top one for me is Coeur d'Alene. I can't even spell it right most of the time. Check out the other nine.
1. Boise (BOY-see)
- Pronounce this with a ZZZZZ and get ready for neck chop. Idahoans don't take kindly to mispronouncing the biggest city in their state.
2. Coeur d’Alene (kore-duh-LANE )
- Pronouncing this is one thing. Spelling it. O-M-G! Not easy for out of towners.
3. Kootenai (KOO-tun-ee)
- Most want to put that "I" sound on the end. Don't do it. I know it's tempting but DON"T DO IT!!
4. Nez Perce (nezz PURSE)
- It's Purse like the thing women carry on their shoulder not Pearce. Get it right!
5. Kuna (KYOO-nuh)
- This little Treasure Valley town gives off the hispanic sound of an n with a tilde. If you don't what that means, then go to Cowgirls and ask them.
6. Pahsimeroi (puh-SIMMER-oi)
- This is a river in Custer and Lemhi counties. It's a Shoshoni name.
7. Picabo (PEEK-uh-boo)
- Yes, just like the little game you play with your toddler.
8. Owyhee (oh-WYE-hee)
- How did Owyhee end up in Idaho? Isn't that Hawaiian? It sounds the same but is spelled differently.
9. Buhl (BYOO-ull)
- This Twin Falls county sounds like something you'd up-chuck after having too much liquor.
10. Weiser (WEE-zur)
- Not to confuse you but this follows the opposite rule that Boise follows. Weiser sounds out with a ZZZZZ and not an SSSSS.
