Zoo Boise's 14-year-old lion Jabari unfortunately had to be euthanized today.

Jabari, who had been diagnosed with cancer back in November, had originally appeared to be responding well to his chemotherapy treatment.  However, as time went on it became apparent that that was actually not the case.

Officials at Zoo Boise said, "after another examination, it became clear that he had not been responding to treatment and with his condition worsening, the decision was made to euthanize him."

Jabari had been at Zoo Boise since 2008.  Lions in zoo environments typically live to about 16 years old.
