What does "home" mean to you?

As Rick and I have been traveling through our "1 Shirt 365 Days" campaign I have thought a lot about the word "home." To me it has nothing to do with 4 walls and a roof over your head. It has much more to do with the people inside and the memories that are created.

People on the street are usually lacking both people who love them and a roof over their head. It's an unimaginable lonely, cold world to live in. Everyone, in my mind deserves a home, not just a house.

Right now I am living in a hotel. I have all of my basic needs met, but I do not have a home. I have had great emotion over selling our home back in Salt Lake City. It has nothing to do with the love I have for Boise. I fell in love with this city during my first visit, but my babies have grown up in that home. I have countless beautiful memories there. I've put an offer on a home here in Boise and I know that when we move in and start making that house a home, Boise will be that much dearer to my heart.

11 year old Hanna Furiman of Boise completely understands the difference between a house and a home as well. She just won a trip to Washington D.C. in a contest sponsored by the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment. Hanna may not have a large luxurious home, but as her treasure box shows, "Home is where the heart lives its measure." (You can view her winning art work HERE.)What a mature little girl. I hope my children will always see home that way. Congratulations Hanna!
