We're on to a new year, but here's a look back at the headline making stories of 2016 in Idaho. 

Unfortunately, we've had some lows with fires and crime here in the state, but we definitely ended on a high note!

  1. The Pioneer Fire that burned 200,000+ acres in the Boise National Forrest.
  2. The Table Rock Fire that scorched 2,500 acres and burned a house down.
  3. A Boise pastor was released from a prison in Iran after being held for 3 1/2 years for practicing Christianity. Upon his return his wife said he was abusive and he moved out of Idaho.
  4. In Dietrich 3 white high school football players were accused of raping a disabled black girl.
  5. BSU Student, Sierra Bush was murdered. Her body was found south of Idaho City a month after she went missing. Her killer, Bruce Marchant has been arrested.
  6. Two Boise Police Officers were shot and the canine officer Jardo was killed in the attack.
  7. The Idaho Legislature decided not to expand Medicaid coverage to the 80,000 Idahoans who don't currently qualify.
  8. The JUMP complex was completed downtown.
  9. Olympian and Boise Native, Kristin Armstrong won her 3rd Gold Medal in cycling.
  10. The U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree came from right here in Idaho. The 80 foot Engelmann Spruce was cut down in the Payette National Forrest and made its way across the country.
