This Could Be The End of Steelhead Fishing in Idaho

We love our hunting and fishing here in Idaho, so the thought of that going away to any degree is painful. Here's how this season could be the last chance we'll have to fish for steelhead. 

Environmental groups, such as Idaho Rivers United and Friends of the Clearwater, among other groups, have filed a 60-day-notice of an intent to sue. Naming Governor C.L. "Butch" Otter and the Idaho Department of Fish and Game according to KTVB.

The groups argue that the number of steelhead returning to the Snake River basin is down for the second year in a row. They also argue that fishing for hatchery steelhead leads to the accidental killing of some wild steehead that are protected under the Endangered Species Act.

Right now is prime time for steelhead fishing, but according to the Idaho Department of Fish and Game you can legally fish for steelhead between August and May. The Salmon River is notorious for great steelhead fishing, but it may all be coming to an end if these environmental groups get what they want.
