A fiery crash about six months ago that left four people dead has been a key factor in the decision to demolish the Cloverdale Overpass, but it means an I-84 closure and potentially a very nasty morning commute.

The I-84 freeway will be closed tonight starting at 9 p.m. and re-opening at 5 a.m. all eastbound lanes will be shut down along with two westbound lanes between Flying Wye and Eagle Road. The same stretch of road will be closed Tuesday night between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m.

Commuters are encouraged to use Franklin Road and Overland Road as alternates according to idahonews.com.

The accident that killed four people, including three airmen stationed at Mountain Home Air Force Base, happened near the Cloverdale Overpass when a semi-truck and an SUV slowed for construction traffic and caused a chain reaction back in June. The accident was so bad that it completely impaired the concrete overpass. You can read more about that story at The Idaho Statesman.
