Rick and Carly’s Kids: Boise Twins Battling Rare Disorder

Meet Liam and Easton. Darling twin boys battling a rare disorder and a mother who will stop at nothing to give them the best life possible. 

Liam and Easton are our "Rick and Carly's Kids" this month. When their mother Desiree noticed they weren't hitting some of their developmental milestones as babies she sought help. The diagnosis: Ullrich Congenital Muscular Dystrophy; a rare life changing disorder that is progressive.

Looking at the three year old boys, their struggles aren't obvious. They have learned to walk, climb steps, and even jump a little. The prognosis for this disorder is a tough road though. The boys will eventually loose the ability to walk as their muscles weaken. The disorder can lead to respiratory problems, feeding problems, and even scoliosis.

These days Desiree is doing everything she can to help Liam and Easton have the best life possible. Her days are spent running the boys to water therapy, physical therapy, and other doctors appointments. When she's home she and her husband Christian have three other children to take care of.

We wanted to do something special for the boys, so we partnered with "Bears Knight Out," a new toy store that is part of Maddy's Plaza in Caldwell. The owner, Gerry let the boys go wild, picking out anything and everything they wanted!
