Ok, well it is going to take a while before Fred Meyer actually gets rid of their plastic bags, however, their parent company, Kroger, announced that ALL their stores will phase out of plastic bags by 2025. According to KTVB, Kroger orders 6 billion bags every single year (whoa!) for their "2,779 stores in 35 states and the District of Columbia, serving almost 9 million people daily through two dozen different grocery chains" including Fred Meyer stores right here in the Valley.

This shift to discontinue the use of plastic bags will begin at their Seattle-based, QFC, then move to other stores around the country. We'll keep you posted about when our local Fred Meyer stores will start to phase them out.
