Reports of Kiefer Sutherland hanging out in Boise are all over today. Here's MY story of a brush with Kiefer.

Years ago I was working in radio at a Top 40 station in Idaho Falls. At the time, there was a radio trade publication called "Radio and Records"  (R&R). They would host a big industry convention on the west coast in Los Angeles every other year. Radio people would fly in from all over the country to attend. Record companies would host suites and showcases to introduce their artists to people in radio.

It was one of the convention years, and I was all set to attend the "R&R Convention" in sunny southern California. Our radio station had a "job shadow" program with the local high schools, and our job shadow at that time was a high school senior girl who wanted to major in broadcast communications....and...she was a huge fan of Kiefer Sutherland.

When she found out I was going to Los Angeles for a convention (she'd never been) she was extremely excited for me, and said..."oh my gosh...you are so lucky!....if you see Kiefer Sutherland you HAVE to tell him I said hi!...I LOVE Kiefer Sutherland! He's my favorite actor!"

I replied, "Jennifer, that's awesome, but there are over 8 million people in the greater Los Angeles area, so the odds of me running into Kiefer are....well....one in eight million."

"Well, if you do, you have to tell him hi for me," she replied.

So off to the convention I go, a Thursday through Saturday event. On the last day of the convention, another trade magazine hosted a party at Gladstone's in Pacific Palisades, right on the beach. A few of us piled into a cab and headed to the party that afternoon.

I got in line for the bar when we got there, and waited patiently as the line moved, one by one, closer to the bar. Finally, I was next in line. When the guy in front of me got his beers (one in each hand) he turned suddenly and stepped back at the same time, bumping into me and spilling beer onto the floor and...all over me. As I was looking down at the beer on my shoes and pants he said..."oh no....I am SO...SO sorry..."

As I looked up I started to say, "no worries....stuff happens."....and realized I was looking at an embarrassed....yup....Kiefer Sutherland. He felt so bad, he bought me a beer...

This all happened before "selfies"  were a thing, and I didn't have a camera, so no pics. I did tell him Jennifer's story. I almost didn't have the heart to tell Jennifer about the encounter when I got back, but...I did.

And THAT....is a true story....and my brush with Kiefer.
