I'm a newby to the Gem State, but if you're originally from Idaho, are you so sick of hearing these things?!

I'm still trying to figure out what aspects of Idaho people are proud of and what they are so sick of hearing about! Are you tired of ...

1. People asking about potatoes?

2. People thinking Idaho is just like they depict in the movie "Napoleon Dynamite!"

3. People thinking there is nothing to do in Idaho

I've been living here for 7 months now and I quickly discovered Idaho is nothing like I thought it would be. I personally think it's cool that we're known for great potatoes, but I've also learned its a pretty minor detail. Potatoes don't define who we are. I don't even know anyone who grows potatoes, plus we have wineries, onions, and sugar beet farms. It's not all about the potato!

I'll admit when Rick and I first drove to Idaho I thought all it would be was cowboys and farmland. Boy was I wrong!! Boise is very cool and trendy. People know what's in style, they're super smart, and tech savvy. Plus I swear people are nicer here than anywhere else in the country!

I was also under the initial impression that there isn't much to do here which is completely wrong!! I love the fact that we have the Boise River and the Green Belt to float, ride, and run on. I can't wait to kayak down the Payette River this summer and discover all the cool hot springs! Plus we have some great hikes, parks, and camping sites.

It doesn't take long to discover Idaho is not what a lot of people think it is! My Dad always says his "heart is shaped like Idaho" (he grew up in Pocatello) and my heart is slowly but surely turning into the shape of Idaho too!
