Ice, snow, and zero visibility are to blame.

The Oregon Department of Transportation announced that a stretch of I-84 is closed due to severe weather in Eastern Oregon.

The following is from the ODOT's traffic alert:

"Ice, snow, high winds (80 mph gusts), blowing snow with near zero visibility and freezing rain are creating treacherous road conditions throughout north eastern Oregon and parts of south eastern Oregon. Travelers are advised to stay home or in a safe location and not try to drive. Several crashes have occurred, trailers have been blown over into ditches, roofing is being blown off of some building and other flying debris is creating additional hazards. Down trees and down powerlines can be expected as this high wind event moves through the area today."
