For the past week, the hottest discussion has been on guns and preventing future tragedies. Before you jump to any conclusions, know that the Meridian Police Department feel this is a one time incident and also most likely has nothing to do with gun control or the tragic events that took place in Florida last week.  With that said, the severity of this crime is much more serious than you'd originally think.

KIVI TV just broke a story about two men, one described as a tall, thin, white male and the other as a while male with an average build broke into a Meridian home yesterday afternoon around 1:30 p.m. in the 300 block of East Gannet Street.  Both men were wearing masks and were attempting to break into a safe when the home owner walked through the front door.

A gun was drawn on the home owner and he was instructed to open the safe where the intruders gathered up four rifles, two shotguns, three pistols, and three bows.  The victim was able to escape, run out the front door and scream for help.  911 was called but the thieves were gone when Meridian Police arrived.

Meridian Police do not believe this was a random robbery.  They believe the intruders knew the victim and carefully planned this crime.  Anyone with information should call the Meridian Police Department immediately at 208-888-6678.
