Daryl Pinkins spent the last twenty four years of his life behind bars for a rape he didn't commit, and a Boise State professor proved his innocence.

Boise State professor and Executive Director of the Idaho Innocence Project, Greg Hampikian, presented DNA evidence which helped exonerate Pinkins yesterday afternoon.

Hampikian used new DNA software that has the ability to examine evidence long after the physical evidence is gone.  This new technology is revolutionary, especially in cases that are three decades old or more.  Up until now, those cases were hopeless.

The Idaho Innocence Project has been on Pinkins case for eight years and Pinkins' lawyer's been fighting for his freedom since 1999.

Hampikian says, "He is innocent, he always was.  The DNA showed it before trial, and now the state agrees with our reanalysis using TrueAllele software.  This twenty five year nightmare is beginning to end."

Hampikian hopes that the TrueAllele software will help with thousands of cases that should be reviewed and help free the innocent that currently live behind bars.
