What is Pho? How do you pronounce it and where is the best place to find it in the Treasure Valley?

Rick and I tried Pho for the first time today. It's something that I've wanted to try for a while now, but I was intimidated by it.

First off, I didn't know exactly what was in it, I didn't know how to order it, and I didn't even know how to say it properly. (I learned today that Pho is pronounced Fuh, like Duh but with an F and not FO with the long O sound.) Ok, I still think PHO sounds better than Fuh because Fun sounds like you are trying to curse but you just can't bring yourself to do it!

We checked out Pho Le off of Broadway in Boise and I was impressed. Inside it was super clean and modern, the waitress was happy to explain Pho to us. You basically choose chicken, beef, or vegetable.

Essentially Pho is broth with rice noodles, your choice of meat, scallions, onion, and then they bring out this plate of delicious herbs, mint, basil, cilantro, bean sprouts, jalapeno slices, and lime. You can also add Siracha, chili sauce, and/or fish sauce if you like. (I went with the Siracha and Rick kept his plain. If you like a little kick I was a fan of adding Siracha)

Lesson learned, Pho is really good! It feels light, and healthy, and there are plenty of options here in the Treasure Valley.

Here are some spots to check out.
