That nasty blue-green algae is back at Eagle Island, and has forced some restrictions.

The Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation announced today that they've had to restrict any water recreational activities because of the blue-green algae bloom. The algae, also known as cyanobacteria, can be toxic and harmful when the growth becomes dense, as is the case right now at Eagle Island State Park.

So, if you decide to go, you can still picnic and take part in other activities, but stay out of the water, because it can be potentially dangerous. The Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation are working with the Idaho Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) to test the water and will notify the public when it becomes safe again.

“Our primary concern is the safety and well-being of our park visitors,” said Jennifer Okerlund, IDPR Communications Manager. “If there’s even suspicion that water within the park could be harmful, we would rather error on the side of being overly cautious.”
